2nd Age History: Neritoph

He called himself the "Master of Land," and later as simply, "Lord Lliedos."

Lliedos (SA 174-197) believed that all Dramoor was his possession as a gift from the Gods who favoured him amongst men. Even though he does not occupy any non-Neritoph lands, he still claims them as his own, almost launching an invasion of the Scimian capitol (SA 158), Vorga but has so far failed to successfully devise a strategy for taking the prodominantly mountainous nation. In the frigid regions of Northern Neritoph, he conquered then unified Qaqo, Nyesek, and Namaqa, while politically securing the entire Western Neritoph Empire from the edge of Vagortha to The Loreech. His campaigns into (SA 142-156) Chos, Gahnich, Kolysel in the northern desert regions of Neritoph were never successful due to the oppressive heat and constant sand storms. However, his constant invasions forced the ruling class of those cities to unite under a single banner becoming the Kingdom of Norne (Northern Neritoph) under the Mad King Ythastus (SA 148). This short lived kingdom was conquered by Lliedos as a result of betrayal.

Besides invasions and campaigns, Lliedos is a major influence in the politics of Vagortha and the Scimian Empire. He pursues an aggressive policy of destabilization; in particular, he wants to destabilize both the Scimian Mage Order of the Sun and the Scimian political systems through assassination, majic and blackmail. Lliedos pours financial support into the Moon cults (SA 143-185) in order to guarantee that Vagortha, a realm of cults and darkness, remains religiously destabilized. I argue that the Moon cults that now rule the area would never have thrived and grown to their current power had the financial support of Lliedos not been readily available. Once the Moon Cults secured supremacy over their subjects, they rule in proxy for Lliedos, indebted by his support and the demonic contracts that give him power over their very souls.

All this was Lliedos’ response to an aggressively expanding Norleen Empire (SA 136-197), under the rule of Zaul Omar. Like most other Neritophians, Lliedos fully understood the consequences of Norleen expansion into the open markets and fertile lands of Kormangashi. The numerous kingdoms that comprised the Kormangashi land shrunk under the weight of the Norleen naval war machine. Norleen has invaded several Kormangashi kingdoms in order to dominate trade routes (SA 136) across the Green Sea to The Three Moons.

This role demands that Lliedos also see to the integrity of his peoples faith in their Gods and to root out heresy and heterodoxy. His annexation of Neritoph territory, such as the annexation of Namaqa (SA 138), are justified by asserting that the ruling dynasties have abandoned orthodox beliefs and practices. Each of these invasions or annexations is preceded, however, by a judgement as to the orthodoxy of the ruling dynasty. In all cases, the families of these Dynasties are executed and their wealth seized. Thus with the creation of The Three Moons, the ancient and powerful royal families and their dynasties have come to an end (SA 156).

Lliedos, with his vast resources of manpower, does not rely solely on majic, military force or threat to subdue his enemies. Even with 50,000 men, mages, dragons and war machines seiges take several months or years to complete yet might still end in failure. So even before his troops are assembled, he has agents working within the cities to bribe or entice revolt or betrayal. This tactic successfully allowed Lliedos to take Nyesek and Namaqa with minimal lose of life and in a mere few weeks. Subtlety, guile and an intense sense of political foresight allow Lliedos to gain victory where many of his followers believe otherwise. This only adds to his legend.

The next thirty years or so were spent in various wars and expeditions responding to Norleen movements. Many of these were small and added little value to his empire as a whole, but were mainly used to keep Norleen unstable. Lliedos not only consolidated his rule at home (SA 156) by the subjugation of his foes, but sought extension of territory by encroachments upon the lands of Kormangashi (SA 143-197) to offset those taken by the forces of Norleen. The land wars waged by both empires decimated the land and it’s ancient people. His conquests across the Green Sea led him into direct naval conflict with the immense fleets of Norleen costing both empires uncounted thousands of soldiers and merchants.

One of the most formidable of his opponents was his former Vizier Vestabon, who after having been exiled at the court of Lliedos (SA 147) became the tyrant ruler of Tull-Tiwit, a land that cannot be found on any map, through powerful majic (SA 150). The few battles fought by these two almost always ended in stalemate but resulted in a total loss of life greater then that lost in all battles between Lliedos’ and Zaul’s naval forces. Vestabon has ruled Tull-Tiwit for over 500 years, having achieved being born after death as a Lich.

Lliedos dies of disease in his 123rd year (SA: 197) which precipitated a short civil war that ended with his young son, Calatus, successfully taking the throne of The Three Moons (SA 199-245). Following Zaul’s own death at sea Nymrr Omar, Zaul’s eldest male relative, took the throne and consolidated the empire under the Omar banner. It is during this brief period of restructuring, it is said that Nymrr came into possesion of a powerful majical artifact known as the Bottle of Dermagard, home of a powerful daemon.

The War of Waves (SA 137-245) ended when Calatus was assassinated by Filion, his bed maiden while the undead armies  and dragon clans under Nymrr Omar successfully invades The Three Moons and secures all of Kormangashi.

So began the Age of Omar.
